None of Soneva's resorts come with television and news channels, and the Wi-Fi in each villa can be switched off with the flick of a switch, allowing guests to disconnect to reconnect.
Barefoot Luxury
On arrival, guests are asked if they would like to remove their shoes - having no shoes on allows us to really feel and experience the ground we walk upon.
It is still the original barefoot luxury brand and still one of the travel industry’s greatest innovators. With the founder's personal vision of a locally crafted villa and environmentally responsible lifestyle, Soneva Fushi was the first 'castaway' resort in the Maldives, pioneering a trend for back-to-nature luxury holidays and subsequently, Soneva Jani.
The success of the Soneva brand also paved the way for Six Senses Resorts & Spas with award-winning properties in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Under the founder's direction, the Six Senses brand gained a global following before being sold in 2012.
Located in the Baa Atoll, Kunfunadhoo Island is one of the largest islands in the Maldives. The resort can be reached by a scenic 30-minute seaplane flight direct from Malé International Airport or a 12-minute speedboat ride for guests scheduled on domestic flights at the nearby Dharavandhoo Airport. Soneva Fushi has a private airport lounge exclusively for Soneva guests at the seaplane terminal.
Accommodation
Soneva Fushi features 62 private villas, from one-bedroom to nine-bedroom, with their own stretch of pristine beach. Guests will be treated to a unique ‘castaway’ experience within spacious villas, which feature beautifully designed interiors made from the highest quality sustainable materials. Sustainability is at the heart of Soneva's ethos, which is why sourcing sustainable construction materials and maintaining the natural beauty of each of their resorts' locations is of utmost importance.
Villas at Soneva Fushi are located on the sunset or sunrise side of the island. While both sides have the Maldives' signature white-sand beaches and crystal clear azure waters, there are a few differences.
Sunset side: For the snorkelers
This side has three house reef access points and dolphins are more likely to be spotted in the channel. On this side of the island it is possible to see neighbouring island, Eydhafushi, approximately 650 metres away.
Sunrise side: For privacy
Enjoy virtually unimpeded views out to sea, as Maalhos, the closest neighbouring island on this side, is just a speck on the horizon. This side is perfect for early risers who want to enjoy the morning tranquillity and guests who want privacy.
One Bedroom Water Retreat with Slide
Accessed from the main island by a curved jetty, the 585 sqm One Bedroom Water Retreat with Slide is perched directly over the clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
The large master bedroom has a king-sized bed, over which a retractable roof offers an incredible view of the night sky.
Else, take in the expansive ocean view with the large french doors that let in plenty of brilliant sunlight.
Adjoining the master bedroom is a child's sleeping area, ensuite dressing room and bathroom.
The private and secluded outdoor bathroom with direct lagoon access comes with double vanity and large sunken tub for the ultimate relaxation.
From the deck, take a cooling dip in the private pool, step directly into the balmy sea, or take the plunge from the villa’s own slide. The spacious al fresco living space includes comfortable loungers, a sunken seating area and catamaran nets over the ocean.
Crusoe Suite with Pool
Perch over your private pool, sheltered in the trees, or take a dip in its refreshing waters. The clear Maldivian ocean awaits only steps away, if you fancy exploring its underwater wonders. Relax amidst the playfully rustic-chic rooms and terraces and give in to the castaway spirit.
Spanning 145sqm, this double-storey villa comes with an upstairs terrace that can accommodate two adults and one child or three adults.
On the ground floor, there is a downstairs living room with large daybed alongside plenty of seating area.

On the outside, you’ll get a private outside sitting area next to the private pool with sun loungers. The staircase from the garden can lead directly to the upstairs terrace

Out of the Blue
'Out of the Blue' rises out of the majestic Indian Ocean: a two-storey overwater structure that houses five unique dining outlets. Feast on the creations of top chefs from around the world in intimate settings.
This area also includes: So Hot - a robata grill, josper grill and pizza area; So Guilty - the chocolate and ice cream parlours; and So Cheesy - their cheese room.
Flying Sauces
Soneva Fushi introduces the world's first dining zipline experience, Flying Sauces which takes fine dining to exhilarating new heights.
With a delectable gourmet menu, breathtaking views over the leafy forest and the adrenaline rush of ziplining through the treetops – the Flying Sauces zipline is a dining experience like no other. Starting from The Den, glide along the 200-metre zipline route to the elevated dining platform – at 12 metres above the ground, it has exceptional views across the sparkling ocean.
Chef Rasal Jayawardene, with an extensive experience in more than 50 Michelin-starred visiting chefs, will prepare an exquisite seasonal menu in their open treetop kitchen, paired with a selection of the finest wines from their extensive cellars. Visiting chefs like Julien Royer from Singapore's Three Michelin-starred Odette visits from time-to-time to brings their unique experiences and flair to Flying Sauce.
Shades of Green
Shades of Green at Soneva Fushi is a plant-based dining experience is set within Soneva Fushi’s organic island gardens, taking diners on an immersive culinary journey that ignites all the senses.
There are five new menus by Danish chef, Carsten Kyster, based on the vibrant colours of freshly picked produce: Purple, Yellow, Orange, Red and Green. Each colourful menu features six courses – Cleansing, Crispy, Raw, Grains, Fire, Sweets – with simple yet innovative dishes that showcase the finest seasonal vegetables, salads, fruit and herbs cultivated at Soneva Fushi.
Once Upon A Table
An ode to expertly prepared fresh seafood, Once Upon A Table is a Japanese sushi counter with just five seats. Seeing some of the world's best sushi masters behind its sake-polished Japanese pine, known as 'hinoki', counter top.
The intimate five-seater sushi counter lets you experience the chef's dextrous skills up close. Over here, there is no menu, allowing the creativity and skills of the chef to take centre stage. At times it will welcome Chef Kenji Gyoten, the youngest three-Michelin starred sushi chef in Japan.
Out of The Sea
Out of the Sea is an intimate, rustic seaside shack focuses on the freshest, sustainably caught seafood. The menu features Mediterranean flavours, wok-fried dishes and tapas-inspired light bites.
Head outside for one of the best seats in-house which offers magnificent sunset views over the Indian Ocean, a perfect way to end your day.
Mihiree Mithaa
Translating to ‘here it is’, Mihiree Mithaa features an endless spread of fresh fruits, live cooking stations, freshly caught and grilled-to-order fish and a collection of Asian dishes and Maldivian specialties.
The wood-fired oven offers freshly baked pizzas whereby guests can design their own pizza by choosing from the choice of toppings.
Fresh in the Garden
Dine high above Soneva Fushi's gardens, where the aromas of the herbs waft up from below. The central open kitchen gives you front-row seats to the action.
Choose to sit under cover or beneath the starry night sky. Currently, Chef Mads Refslund is running a 12-month pop-up that will offer guests at Soneva Fushi a rare opportunity to dine with one of Denmark’s most exciting culinary talents and his team.

Soleni Dive Centre
With more than 30 spectacular dive sites rich with marine life near the resort and multi-lingual PADI instructors, Soneva Fushi is the perfect destination to explore the awe-inspiring wonders of the ocean. Snorkel the Baa Atoll in search of Manta Rays in Hanifaru Bay, which has one of the world’s largest populations of Manta Rays. Conditions permitting, fortunate guests might get to see hundreds of Mantas as they gorge themselves on plankton.
Cinema Paradiso
Guests are invited to join a classic film screening in their open-air theatre. Lie back in your cushioned lounger atop the beach and immerse yourself in the magic of Cinema Paradiso. So Glassycle
Soneva’s first-of-its-kind glass studio in the Maldives offers guests the rare chance to get up close and personal with the delicate art of glassblowing. During the three-hour session, you’ll be working closely with an experienced team of glass specialists to create your very own masterpiece to take home.
All works created at the Art & Glass Studio are made using recycled glass bottles from Soneva Fushi and other nearby resorts.
Soneva Family
Soneva Fushi is an adventure playground for children and teenagers alike. The Den is the largest children’s club in the Maldives and South Asia, packed with exciting, one-of-a-kind activities and experiences for youngest guests, and the island’s natural surroundings provide incredible opportunities for fun, educational and inspirational activities and experiences.
Inspired by childhood wonder, the Den is a playground for the imagination. Children can explore a pirate ship, two swimming pools, a Lego and Duplo room, dress-up and makeup area, cinema, library, learning area, music room filled with instruments, and more.
